In February 2008, Christina, a 30-year-old young mother, showed her doctor a suspicious mole on her thigh. Removal of the mole gave the athletic swimmer, skier and cyclist a clean slate—she hoped. Then, in 2009, she detected a lump in her groin. Melanoma had hit her lymph nodes; surgeons found only one malignant node, but treatments followed. In June 2010, routine scan results devastated family and friends: spots in her lungs. The "skin cancer" had metastasized and was classified as STAGE 4. The FIGHT was on.
