Maurice Ravel's infamously virtuosic Scarbo, from Gaspard de la nuit, one of the great masterpieces for piano. Long-awaited recording by Marc-André Hamelin, live in 2011.

  • hate alkan

  • @MoonMankkkkkk He's performed Gaspard quite a few times recently, all 3 movements. Alas, I don't have recordings of the previous ones...

  • @madlovba3

Do you know if he recently performed the previous movements of the piece?

  • @MoonMankkkkkk I read it in an article online (I don't remember exactly where).

  • @madlovba3

How did you discover that he played Scarbo at that age?

  • @eddievollbio

Liszt can also be "haunting" rather than "thrilling". Stupid statement is stupid :D

  • nice i can play this.. LOL

  • He ignores a lot of the dynamic markings. Argerich's and Pogorelich's remain the standards for me.
