Opening track from Hubbard's "Hub Tones" album. Freddie Hubbard (trumpet); James Spaulding (alto saxophone, flute); Herbie Hancock (piano); Reggie Workman (bass); Clifford Jarvis (drums).
Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on October 10, 1962. Originally released on Blue Note (84115).
This whole record is full of Freddie's most brilliant lines, and all the rest of the band comes through too. Plus a great choice of tunes. I just keep playing this round and round in the car and rediscovering how hip this is/was

You can't help but feel good when you listen to good music like this. Our landlord who lived 1 floor down shared his apt with his Brother who LOVED jazz & would play it daily.
Because he was hard of hearing, he would play the music REALLY loud, so I could hear it in our apt. I liked this music a little as a kid (had no choice) but it wasn't until my early 20's (which was nearly 20 years ago) that I really began to appreciate this kind of music.
RIP Howard Whitaker & thanks for the memories!
