Ice Skating on Tenaya Lake, Yosemite, 12/17/11

This is a very rare event where you ice skate on Tenaya Lake. The road is usually closed due to snow and the lake is snow covered. This year has no snow and low temps enabling the lake to freeze. The ice was 4 to 3" thick.
The 1st segment is skating on the Dana Fork.

We went up about 3 weeks later. Two days later Tioga Pass was closed! So glad we did it. It was the most amazing thing! The ice was "pinging" just like a sonar on a submarine! THAT was amazing to hear!

absolutely fantastic!! we are so lucky!! i just came back from Yosemite and went ice skating on Tenaya too :)

Way Cool! Jumped in that lake in Dec 1999. We had to break a little ice to get in. This looks more fun than that!

That is awesome! We are thinking about heading down next week, im assuming that is that a safe amount of ice to withstand ice skating? Would love to do this!
