Like with most New Year's Eve celebrations, there will be people out Saturday night drinking in celebration of 2012.

The hope from officer at the West Palm Beach Police Department is that those who are drinking, choose to give up their keys and find a safe way home.

But as people have seen in past New Year's Eve celebrations, people still make the decision to drink and drive.

To make sure people out celebrating are safe, the West Palm Beach Police Department said it will have extra officers out patrolling, especially in downtown.

The city said in addition to the extra police officers, there is also the downtown enforcement group and private security.

Those who were downtown on Saturday preparing for New Year's Eve said for the most part, they feel safe bringing in 2012.

"There's been enough publicity about it that I think it's not as bad as it used to be years ago," said Maurice Maccario, a West Palm Beach resident.

WPTV News Channel 5 will have a unique look inside a squad car on New Year's Eve and see what is being done to keep people safe on New Year's Eve on News Channel 5 at 11 p.m.
