Nutsaboutclara was dead on, and David Stenn is the expert on her life. Poor Clara ran crying out of the screening room watching her first sound screen test, sure that her career was over. She was her own worst critic, but fortunately, B.P. Schulberg at Paramount loved her, and people flocked to her movies as usual. Clara would stop in mid-sentence and just stare in hatred at the microphone, even jumped up, caught one and destroyed it! She was fun, honest, beautiful, and nobody could act with

@nutsaboutclara That's not entirely true! I've never read that Clara had a "childhood stammer"!! Marion Davies talked with a stammer, you must have them confused!!! Paramount threw Clara into talkies with very little training and she did fine in them, and even more so considering how little training she had! There's nothing wrong with her voice at all!! Her voice is fine and fits her well!
