20 years after hillsborough

On 15 april 1989, 96 people succumbed to a deadly human crush, in the Hillsborough stadium. 20 years has since passed, the 96 people have not yet been avenged. The league has not been won since a year after that disaster. In the Leppings Lane of Hillsborough, 96Liverpudlians with hearts as ours died, due to poor police control. This saw the revamping of our beloved Kop, where we once sang the roof down. This song stars King Kenny, Aldo, and many others, not to leave out local musicians and members of the Hillsborough disaster club. Rafa has urged us Liverpudlians to buy the song. May this be the season we avenge our 96 who lost their lives and shall never awake again. Let Paisley, Shanks and all the greats who have since passed on protect our team from injuries, let our players believe in themselves, give themselves the chance to be heroes, the ones who's names will be written and passed on in history. Let the future Kopites who pass through the Shankly gates, who enter the KOP end know that this was once where the likes of Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Pepe Reina once won the league. ♫The original 'Fields Of Athenry' was written in 1979 and soon adopted by Celtic fans, but arguably the first time it was sung at Anfield was December 1995, when Ireland lost to Holland in their Euro 96 play-off. The website of Eircom, sponsors of the Republic side, recalls: "Nobody who was present at Anfield will ever forget the occasion. From the moment the Irish fans appeared in the famous Liverpool Kop, strains of 'The Fields Of Athenry' began to echo around the ground. At the other end, the massed ranks of Dutch supporters could only watch in admiration." The Liverpool version is believed to have originated in The Oakfield pub, home of the Liverpool Away Supporters Club, around 1997.

Gerrard's cousin was Jon-Paul Gilhooley. He was the youngest to die at Hillsborough, for he was only 10. Gerrard has stated himself that he plays for Jon-Paul.

In an interview with him before the match against Chelsea:

...Hillsborough is on my mind every day of my life because I lost a member of my family there....for people connected to this club the tragedy will never ever be forgotten....it should be a time that Liverpool Football Club remembers the people who were lost and their families.
