Nowadays the standard technique for cataract surgery is PHACO-EMULSIFICATION. In this technique the opaque lens (cataract) is removed through a small incision (cut), by dissolving it inside the eye and sucking it out. A soft , foldable lens is then placed in the eye through the same incision. There is no need of any stitches or sutures as this small incision is self-sealing.
