The Mel Brown Quintet always sets the bar high when they take the stage.

This premiere Jazz group is still in residency (as a sextet, quartet and B3s Organ Quintet on various nights of each week) at Jimmy Mak's Bar and Grill in the Pearl District of downtown Portland, OR.

Their "no breaks" policy, meaning the songs in a set segue together in seamless form and function, is a marvel to see and a performance weapon that always entertains the audience from start to finish.

This video is from Blue Lake Park during the Summer Concert Series and was shot by Multnomah Cable Access in 1988.

Incidentally, the members of the Sextet won the grand prize at the Hennessey Cognac Jazz Search that year in Los Angeles, CA.
