Jonathan Cage has, yet again, reperfected his great work Four Feet and Thirty-three inches. However, whether by design or not, some do-gooders (and do-badders!) have completely thrown off 4'33" Allegro Number 4 [this particular section]. Do they not have respect for the AAAAAAARRRRRRTS
There is a silver lining, in that, according to Cage, and I quote:
" the woods abolition of slavery
may I ask thirty two questions? of mice and men, and of other men?
Blue Thunder! birds twist with water feelings
contemporary.... hydrating."
Needless to say, this wisdom extends far beyond the text (the symphony of Being) (or perhaps, more properly, Dasein) which is the symphony of being. This extends beyond the sights, the music of the eyes.
His genius is precisely that of the style of nihilism manifest in Nietzsche, Book One of Beyond Good and Evil: Do not look to my intention, nor can we count on the intention of morality, order, and what we claim...rather, let us place a special care and attention to the 'unintention.'
For Cage, this is sound, what the Greeks call 'techne' (art, skill), doing something (or, 'esse'), or perhaps he did as we receive at the mode we receive. Regardless of the 'Dance of the Infinite Regress of Non Sense of John Cage, which is Me, Read My Book Silence' this peace is what I strive for.
What a plain stopwatch.
I was expecting a grandfather clock on a string.
