Chapter Three

I woke up in a hospital bed. Last place I wanted to be. I raised my hands so that I could see them. They were a bit dirty but other than that, they looked completely normal.
Looking around the room, I couldnt see anyone else in here. But, if no one was here, how did I get here? Surely Aimee or at least a teacher would ride in the ambulance with me, just to make sure I was going to be ok. Or what if I didnt arrive in an ambulance? Did someone give me a ride? Either way, someone should at least be here with me.
The curtain around me flew wide open to reveal Vikki standing on the other side. I didnt think I would be so excited to see her. Was she the one that saved me? Wait, I didnt need to saved. What was the last thing I saw...headlights! I was run over by a truck!
I whipped the sheets off of me. My feet started to kick the air as if I was still laying on the pavement with the vehicle heading my way. I could hear my voice screaming in terror. There was no way I was run over by that thing and survived!
Vikkis freezing hands grabbed my shoulders and pushed me back into the bed. Leila! Leila, youre ok! Calm down Her voice was loud but calming at the same time. Vikki was definitely a lot stronger than she looked. She kept her grip no matter how hard I kicked.
Calming down a bit, I brought my hands to my face. I could hear my sobs over nurses talking in the background. Shutting my eyes tightly, I tried to think of something else. I had to get my mind off this horrible memory.
I felt someones arms wrap around me. When I looked up, I saw Vikki rocking my body back and forth. She was calming me down.
My body was still shaking but I was able to forced words out of my mouth. Vikki...what happened? My voice was shaky and filled with sobs. Moving my hands from my face, I hugged Vikki tightly. There was no way I was ever going to let go.
Once again, the curtains around me moved again but this time, it was more softly. I let go of Vikki for a minute to see who it was. Matthew...he was here! He was standing right outside my hospital bed. For a second, he was just standing there then he moved his eyes to the floor uncomfortably.
I was about to ask what was wrong but when I opened my mouth, I remembered. I was in a hospital...so I was in a hospital gown...he saw my butt.
Almost screaming again, I searched for the sheets that were on me before. My body was moving in the same manner as before but this time, in embarrassment. Once I had a grip on the sheets, I threw them over me and pulled them over my head. My face was probably purple. I was ready to scream my head off until I heard Matthew chuckling.
His laugh made me giggle quietly under the sheets. Slowly, I pulled them down to my chin. When his eyes met mine, we both started laughing again. My face mustve looked hilarious since I was blushing like there was no tomorrow.
Once all three of us calmed ourselves down, a nurse came in to check my pulse. She asked me when I was born, how old I was and my address. All those questions were pretty routine, making sure I didnt have amnesia or anything. Then before she left, she told us the doctor would see me shortly.
Again, Vikki, Matthew and I were alone. I took this time to figure out why I wasnt road kill right now. What happened to me? Were the only words I could find. I was looking straight at Vikki, since she was the first in my room. You passed out in the middle of the parking lot and Matthew caught you before you hit the ground Her voice was very serious but her eyes didnt look at me. She was looking at Matthew, almost glaring.
My face formed into puzzlement. I knew I had hit the pavement...I was positive. No, I hit the ground. I remember that. A truck almost ran over me It was my turn to be serious. First I looked at Vikki, then Matthew, who was looking at the ground.
After a moment of silence, Matthew looked directly into my eyes. No, I caught you. You were never in danger His voice sounded angry. Face solemn, hands into fists and eyes glaring at me, Matthew didnt divert his look for a second.
NO! I heard my voice shatter. Words started flowing out before I could stop myself. I know I hit the ground! It was true. I might not have known what had happened after I passed out but the image of the truck was vivid in my mind.
Before I could get another word out, Matthew stormed out of the room without looking back. Then his sister chased after him, giving me a second look of surprise. What was there to be surprised about?
After the two left, a short, chubby doctor walked in. He was almost bald, and had a very round face that reminded you of a toddler with fat cheeks. His glasses were from the 90s, those hideous, half round things that covered half your face.
