September 11, 2001 will stay with us forever. For those of us who lived through it... saw the sights with our own eyes - we will never forget.

As the years pass, we can only hope the memories of the 343 members of the FDNY will not be forgotten. As we're reminded here in this tribute, over 18,000 lives were saved by their actions.

Footage and soundtrack courtesy of The History Channel Documentary, "Into The Fire".

  • There were 344, and now comes word that the department radio mechanic, Glen Pennington, was ordered to clean radios at the pile.

A civilian and not a volunteer at WTC, Glen used to eat with us after ham radio shows.

A big man until he got leukemia and died, not before shrinking down to a 100 pounds, I think they should add him and the other guy to make it 345.

You never heard a bad transmission on FDNY radio and Glen had a big hand in that.

  • Radio: Very sorry for your loss in Glen Pennington. Do you know who "the other guy" is that raised the number to 344? This is the first I've heard of it. Respectfully, Jack.

  • @jacksonBVFC Lt. James Corrigan was retired but responded anyway. He was not counted in 343 because he was no longer an official member of the FDNY.
