nice version from ted neeley...but i guess lennon's version has more soul... really coming out from the heart of an ....abandoned (kid) if i may say....he really misses julia....his short term mother...

@nunobits12 It's a shame though eh? I was waiting because I know Just How Well Ted could scream. Shame, coulda been really awesome
But man does his voice sound smooth here

@nunobits12 I saw Ted Neely play a pimp in one obscure movie. He has a Texas accent in real life. Haha

Beautifully sung by Ted! Thank you for posting this here. He was blessed from the beginning of his career until his retirement. He will trully be missed! God Bless you Ted and your sweet wife forever!-Stargazer4JC

Wow, love it. I know Ted is a legend for many , i wasn't a great fan of Gethsemane, preferred Balsamo's version, but this is just brilliant. Not heard Lennon doing this, now i've heard this 1 first, can't imagine Lennon doing it any better. But a beautiful song
. Where is it from?
Are there any Neeley CD's with contempory stuff, other than the JCS tracks he's known for. Bx

Neeley's done a ton of obscure work that can be found if you do enough detective work. This song in particular is from 1974 A.D.
Both versions of Mother are stunning, I'd say Neeley has the edge on a technical basis but Lennon's is definitive. They both have a great, vulnerable sound to them. I'd say actually though that Lennon gave it more effort in the screamy ending.

I posted a comment about this version four weeks ago. I listen to it everyday. I like it much better than Lennons.

i dont
but something they both capture is incredible vulnerability
a great song that cuts to the heart of the matter, i love both ted and lennon's recordings.
