Jun. 21 - Llasa city is on lockdown for the latest relay leg of the Beijing Olympic flame.
The relay lasted just two hours as the 27-kilometre route originally planned was shortened by about two thirds although authorities say the measure was a mark of respect for the victims of China's devastating earthquake rather than the result of security concerns.
Paul Chapman reports.
"We will certainly be able to totally smash the splittist schemes of the Dalai Lama clique," said Zhang Qingli, Communist party secretary in Tibet in one of the post-relay speeches.
So much for the IOC and China's demands that sport and politics be kept separate.
The silence from the IOC over the torch relay in Tibet shows that they are willing to speak out against dissent but will give tacit support to anything China does to politicize the games.
