Don Ohlmeyer, former President of NBC, discusses the 2004 Presidential Election as it was covered in the News, in this interview excerpt. Ohlmeyer was interviewed for four hours in Malibu, CA. Ohlmeyer talked about his early years in television as an associate director for ABC sports. He spoke about the memorable moments of the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City as well as the tragedy that befell the 1972 Olympics in Munich, both of which he directed for the network. He talked about producing the popular series of specials Battle of the Network Stars. He discussed his transition to NBC sports and then his establishment of Ohlmeyer Communications where, among other projects, he produced the Emmy-winning television movie Special Bulletin. He detailed his move back to NBC as president of NBC, west coast, where he reinvigorated the network with Must See TV and post-Johnny Carson late-night television. Finally he talked about his departure from NBC; his brief return to Monday Night Football; and his current passions of painting, teaching, and writing.
