What is emerging appears to be the ripple affect of one or two unskilled or selfish drivers in any one trip, amongst regular traffic. These drivers seem to be few, but their actions are many. Which is why the same cars keep reappearing in my narrative. Thus, another car case study appears in the diary for 03 Mar 2009.

Observation(s):
- Silver car case study
- Pedestrians blocking traffic
- Rain and white road markings
- Ponderings of the 60km or 80km limit
- Airport emergency rescue appliance
- Cheap petrol $109.9 litre - Caltex on Brighton Road
- Misc driving obs
- Van disobeying lane direction / south road
- Shopping centre parking
- How to turn and do your hair

Conditions: Fair, intermittent rain, 17C

Date/Time: Tuesday, 03 Mar 2009

Current Road Toll:

What: Driving Diary (12 month experimental project)

Where: South Australia

Why: To record 12 months of my life driving, and in the process reflect on my own driving behaviour and to possibly highlight how other ppl's behaviours can impact negatively on us. Accidents can be so easily avoided.

Sound: I only keep one CD in the car and change that weekly, so there will be some repetition. GPS also makes a few sounds and audible directions.

This is for educational (not punitive) purposes, it is my belief that citizens shouldn't police other citizens.

  • 8:23=the car park giveway situation?ITs a BMW!!Please submit to their Heirarchy.You insolent lower class driver.Know wot i mean??

  • there is a sense of entitlement with some drivers I'll admit - but it appears to follow the driver, not the car I've noticed :)

  • I've always thought the driveway for the former John Martins carpark is poorly designed. Normally in a driveway the pedestrians have right of way over entering and exiting traffic. With the way the council have continued the pavement over the driveway, it's easy for those not paying attention (pedestrians, that is) to not realise that there's actually a set of traffic lights.

  • agree, the entrance to this carpark just looks like an extension of the footpath - I've seen so many pedestrians almost run over here too. Loads of ppl would have been knocked down here over the years disobeying the lights (albeit unintentionally more than likely) - wonder why it's not signed better - esp given the proximity to Adelaide Uni and UniSA and the steady flow of international students (who are probably more at risk than locals).

  • People on phones erks me..

As for that funny tow bar on the bus. It's a truck type tow bar. The trailer will have a round hole (like a dohnut) in it. The tralier is pushed in to the megaphone bit after the locking pin is lifted. The locking pin (this holds the load) is then put back in. It's for heavy duty loads (you see them on back of trucks). It will take more load then a standard ball joint. Pardon my lack of proper names for the tow bar bits.

    Barbie girl song LOL

  • ohhhhh..... I love knowing how things work and fit together - this is good knowledge for me - tks

Still think a megaphone would be useful as well :)

you mak'in fun of my music? *said with hands on hips* :)

  • geez the music stopped me watching to the end

  • 3:22, not really because he can multitask very well but then again your not actually allowed to be on the phone while driving because it is a distraction, I think he did pretty good while he was talking on the phone you just fail to anticipate..

  • The other bad drivers Russel and I see on the way to work are the idiots on the road without any lights on at all before 7 am in winter even in the fog! These sorts would only think to switch their lights on if they could not physically see where they are going. Tip..........if the street lights are on make sure your lights are on. It is unfair when a gap in the traffic turns out to be a car without lights on and you crash and are in the wrong .

Then we see the cup of coffee drinkers on mobile!

  • It started off as just a bit of a laugh until I realized how many people fail to keep left on these two 80 kph roads, I was tempted to post them in sequence on the internet but feared legal issues since almost every photo clearly displays the number plates, so I just keep them as a personal study on human driving behaviour, Australian drivers would not last long on an organised German Autobahn where the motorists actually exercise lane discipline.

drivinginsa what kind of car cam corder is it?

  • I have over 500 mb of still shots of cars on Lonsdale rd and South rd failing to keep left. Many are in the right lane (out of 3 lanes to choose from) travelling under the limit with middle and left lanes often empty (South rd and Lonsdale rd are 80 kph keep left zones) my work colleague takes the pictures while I drive. Many are in sequence often starting at Darlington and finishing past O'Halloran Hill clearly showing the same car same rego plate still in the right lane miles later!

  • The flashing hand means there is not enough time to cross and wait.

  • Self driving cars that are programmed not to crash would solve the problem and would be the solution.

  • i like your choice of music!

  • XDL 663 thats the silver cars plate so watch out for him
