The success of the television series COMBAT in 1989 prompted Central Television to invite the Army to restage the competition in 1990. COMBAT 90 was to be run as a competition between four infantry battalions each representing one of the Home Nations, a Military Triple Crown. The Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders were selected to represent Scotland against The Irish Guards, The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and The Royal Welch Fusiliers representing Ireland, England and Wales respectively.

I still have the finale for Combat 89 kicking around on video! The final was comfortably won by the Para's but remember the Scot's guards were down to three men because of the jeep crash otherwise it'd have been a lot closer!

I have Combat 89 on video, trying to upload it, seems odd that most of these lads will be out of the army now or about to finish 22 years service. I joined in 89 and i only know of 2 guys from my mob still in.

This is the follow-up to "Combat 89", an inter regimental competition held the year before. Gurkhas, Paras and a heapload of line infantry regiments that have probably been disbanded by now. Unsurprisingly, the Para Regt won by a long margin so they rehashed it to be between the British nations and with women team members. This version is a bit "It's A Knockout" - "Combat 89" was really the bees knees, if anyone has it...
