  • the song just sounds so refreshing & inspiring! we heard richard nixon, i gotta go, but you can stay. the captain & the kid is by far one of his best.

  • This song is just amazing, and so is the "Captain and the Kid" album. It's perfect from the first song to the last. This one is particularly fine, it has the vintage Elton John sound all over - and I just love that piano riff. Glad to see he played it live, it's a real highlight. Thanks for posting !

  • LEGEND !

  • Fantastic ! ELton Rules!

  • @RM5WU The issue was Vietnam. The rest is guesswork on my part (I remember Nixon & Vietnam; though I was very young I had Vietnam age brothers) Some lines are easy to guess such as 'Brian Wilsons' Promised Land'

Brian Wilson et al were the Beach Boys & their songs reflected California, beach living etc...of the 1960s. My father was LAPD, he remembered the Manson Family,Robert Kennedys' assasination, Watts riots etc...

  • @toptth We were still in the Vietnam war when they 1st came to the US. Widely viewed as unwinnable waste of life by this time but Nixon & sec'y of state Kissinger sent kids overseas for 3 years (1972-1975) after they both knew the war was lost.

They wanted to save face & didn't publicly acknowledge defeat until '75. A whole lotta young men died in the 3 years Nixon et al spent 'deciding' when to share this with the public.

  • @RM5WU The Vietnam war was still going on when he & Taupin 1st came to the US

but was widely seen as un unwinnable waste of life by this time. My best guess as to the evil caused by two; Nixon & Kissinger knew the war was lost in 1972 but, in order to save face, politically, they sent kids over for the next 3 years before pulling out of the war. One of my older brothers was in Vietnam, another brother received a draft notice just before the war ended in '75.

  • @Waknoodle We were still in Vietnam when they came over for 1st time so it factors in.

  • @RM5WU My guess is 'help' Nixon & Kissinger (evil caused by two) with Vietnam (these are the 2 who knew the war was lost in '72 but sent troops over for 3 more years) my oldest brother joined national guard to avoid going; he went (he wasn't a senators' son) next bro down married in college, next bro down got a draft notice in '75 just before we pulled out of Vietnam. Nixon was evil personified.

  • love ya elton!

  • Any great !!!

  • I like the fact that here elton is performing his new songs that were created in his real and up-to-date vocal caracteristics. Here he doensn´t need to adapt his voice like when he sings his oldies that wore that marvellous "teen-age-boy vocals "Great Elton!!!!.
