The Squaxin Island Tribe maintains the Peale Passage netpens, a coho facility in deep southern Puget Sound. Each year the tribe raises and releases more than 1 million coho salmon from the netpens between Squaxin and Hartstine islands. The program is operated in conjunction with the state Department of Fish and Wildlife.
