@craigclass That's what people say. It's a load of BS though....NY didn't run over the league in the last few years. The problem with the league was owners who thought they could buy a team and draw 20,000+ without making an effort to do so. Some owners bought a team, had them for one year and because they "only" drew 10,000 a game to that one season decided to fold.

@wade2bosh This was an insider joke. The American commentator who called the NASL telecast of the Soccer Bowl final referred to Vancouver as a "village", so to taunt his ignorance (he later apologised) the "village" tag got used by Vancouver fans in reference to the game.

@FrsBigeasy warner bros. bought the cosmos whoever for whatever they wanted and other teams couldnt keep up and the league eventually bust beacuse of it.
-
LOL back then u were a VILLAGE...haha

Great matchup to for a Championship with the Whitecaps and Cosmos

@jjsd0409 It was the theme from Soul Train
Did I read that this was the largest public demonstration in the history of Vancouver?

It may have been. I have lived here a long time and haven't seen one bigger.

"White is the colour, soccer is the game..." That sounds like the first verse of the Saskatchewan Roughriders fight song! Were the Riders and Caps fight songs done by the same songwriter? By the way, I'm from Pittsburgh (no NASL team, but we had an indoor soccer team), and I spelled 'colour' different since this is a tribute to the '79 Soccer Bowl champs!

@kcthatsawinner
It was originally recorded by the Chelsea Football club in 1972 as "Blue is the Colour." Vancouver then copied it with some changes for "White is the Colour in 1978. Saskatchewan heard the Whitecaps version and re-wrote it as Green is the Colour afterwards.
