The 2005 movie did incredibly well, not the 1971 movie. But with no candy factory or sponsors

Quaker bankrolled production of the film because it was hoping to market Wonka candy bars. Didn't pan out, possibly because the movie wasn't received so well.

@RetroToledo One of several films that seem to have become famous classics thanks to TV shows. Along with "The Wizard of Oz" and "It's a Wonderful Life". See, TV isn't all bad for the movie industry!
