Shelbie, a Virginia Range orphan foal was picked up at about 2 days old on the outskirts of Reno on March 23, 2009 in a very weak condition. These clips show how Shelbie is doing two days later under Shirley Allen's care at the Lucky Horse Corrals, along with her new friend Na-a-anette, an orphan lamb. Clips show Shelbie drinking milk from a bowl, running when called, and taking a nap in the "orphan room" while Na-a-anette watches the Beverly Hillbillies on TV.

  • All the orphans who come into the orphan room wear diapers when they are indoors or are going in and out. In good weather when they are out all day they are unclothed. The foals actually wear Depends. These orphan foals can be a challenge health wise so anyone taking on the responsibility needs to understand that there will be good and bad days as their immune and digestive systems aren't as strong as foals that nurse from mama.

  • The Virginia Range wild horses are so lucky that there are Wild Horse Mentors to help them. Thank you for all you do.
