The US will never unify, as education has taken a backseat to ignorance, xenophobia, and fear mongering. Look how we compare worldwide in education, below third world nations; because there are unfortunately way too many stupid people here. Not to say rural US is feeble minded, but rather lacks the exposure and awareness offered by more progressive regions of the country. Maybe, one day they will catch up, but I find it unlikely as reason is as foreign as a college degree in these areas.
