Keep your colors to a minimum keeps your videos small. I.E. if you are recording ms word you probably don't need 32 bit color (which makes your videos about 3x larger than 8 bit color which would work fine) color, resolution, frame rate, and audio has the largest effect on bandwidth or file size. When we developed our 4,000 concurrent user product for a customer with 300,000+ employees, we had to reengineer bandwidth for their network and had to reduce colors. For one person on youtube who cares for 300,000 employees on a company intranet its quite a different problem. Also notice how slow we move when we record screencasts!
