  • I like him more each time, I hear him, and I am especially fond of listening to him playing Albeniz. Even though he was born and raised i America, his playing has that true flamenco-like feel.

Iturbi and Ciccolini are top spanish interpretors. (The one, spanish american, the other, italian).

  • He was born in Valencia, Spain in 1895. The first time he went to America was in 1929, when he was 34 years old.

  • What a pity Iturbi has been all but forgotten! He had such technique and expession - in my opinion NO-ONE plays Chopin better. He now has an absolutely wonderful web site - might be my computer, but am still waiting for the music samples there. Wish his Chopin was available on CD. I did fund a wonderful

CD, Midnight Chopin by Sahan Arzruni, quite by accident and feel his playing is closer to Iturbi than anyone else I have heard. If you like Iturbi, check it out - - -

  • There is a CD "les rarissimes de Jose Iturbi" (EMI) of Itubi playing Granados, Albéniz and Chopin.

  • Hallo Dagmar,

  • I would rather hear Iturbi's Chopin any day over Rubinstein's more famous versions. The man may be the most underestimated great pianist of all time; is it because of his Hollywood years?

  • What a master! Natural musician, great pianist. And what a pleasure to find these videos. Thank you so much.

  • 21 Sept.2011 .. just saw him in a movie 'Midnight Kiss' with Mario Lanza! He played the panio also with his sister, amazing! Enjoyed it all .. shame we don't hear more of him.

  • I don't see how the world could ever forget such superb talent, I sure would not. Thank you for bringing this to us, it is so uplifting to hear it. What a giant all-around talent he was, because he was a good actor too.

  • @billyguns2 .......i believe so ! his version of '' route 66 '' in ''three daring daughters '' is as hot a jazz piece as you would ever find on piano ..... pity some simpleton pulled it ! !

this rendition of the impromptu is superb ! ! !

  • @cutepossession ...asian?

  • @Hofman1895 . Then I must have misunderstood something :) He is still super.

  • About Iturbi being underrated: He was as much a showman as a high-rate classical musician, and that combination: A hollywood showman, occasionlly charmingly hammy, - and a dead-serous musician, has probaly been too hard to swallow. Too hard to place for some people.
