Jin Rong used to be the eldest daughter's classmate. the fact that old Chu falls in love with his daughter's classmate is not so easy for the daughters to digest.

it's about the perception of different generations. he was meant to be with Jin Rong's mother. initially a tiny bit of incestral feeling is pretty natural.

I think the reason the father did not scold the daughter's marriage is be because he is quite an liberal man himself. thats why it is not out of the context of the character when he announce his marriage with jinron

@jkih90 the movie clearly did not show suprise or anger from the father when the daughters get pregnant or married before telling the father. in chinese culture you need to respect the old. the movie did not show the father get angry at his daughter and we cannot assume he did. so what i UNDERSTAND is shouldnt the daughter show a bit of compassion and understanding to the father instead of asking whether he is crazy. thats disrespectful imho.

@JjM91084 well what i see is, when the daughters did all those things, the father did not scold them, and every other daughters supported each other. But all daughters are against the father marrying a younger person. thats what I see from the movie.

@LePetitGrosse strange chinese culture? The scene was showing the reaction of the daughters, who i believe in any culture, would be some sort of shock to hear. And imo, i didn't get the impression that the family was ok after hearing the daughter was pregnant or the eldest getting married b4 telling everyone. I recalled seeing a somber mood after the news, but then again everyone interprets movies different
