what exactly is meant by a raised fingerboard, first off =)?

well a raised fingerboard has it slightly elevated. Making the higher octave register a lot easier because it has more ground for your thumb to anchor upon. It helps with the high notes, 3 octave scaling, etc.

Its when the sound board is slightly angled near the fretboard to allow you to play in the upper register easier, some also say it allows the sound board to resonate better.
