Note of clarification-
OLIVER LAW WAS AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN COMMANDER OF THE LINCOLN BRIGADE AT BELCHITE BATTLESITES. (THERE WERE MANY COMMANDERS, VIRTUALLY ALL BUT ONE OF THEM KILLED, THEN HAD TO BE REPLACED.)

LAW WAS THE FIRST BLACK AMERICAN TO COMMAND WHITE (ACTUALLY INTEGRATED) TROOPS, EVER....THOUGH NOT IN THE SERVICE OF THE U.S. Army because these were part of the Spanish Army (its fifteenth brigade, i.e, the International Brigades).

Kailin's acceptance as the first U.S. (Lincoln) Brigadista granted citizenship in Spain...and the ten year
anniversary of the monument to the Wisconsin Veterans of the Lincoln Brigade.
