You should have just side step him repeatedly (butterfly) or corner abuse him and use parry/slash chain to take him down...It makes killing almost anything a breeze.. :)

I killed these guys by provoking them and letting them run after me. Then I let the order guys attack them and when they were distracted I gave them a charged strike and got the XP :)

haha they told me to go to the other side and open the gate, so that they could storm the place and kill everything..well I kinda did, but I cleared the whole place myself:P and when I got to this fighter "boss" thing I just placed some arrows through the spiked door,,,killed him easy that way
