The American Revolution was only a distant hope, fueled by mistreatment of civilian protesters in Boston and an abrupt new stamp act ("taxation without representation"). Founding fathers watched carefully and began to dream of independence from the crown. So a fistful of farmers and store owners went up against the mightiest military machine on earth at that time, the British Army and British Navy. And surprise, surprise. They won. Here are events that artists have found significant over the past two hundred years. They include early American heroes -- Paul Revere, Minutemen, Molly Pitcher, John Paul Jones, Nathan Hale, Betsy Ross -- as well as significant bloodlettings -- the Boston Massacre, Boston Tea Party, Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, Long Island, Valley Forge, Trenton, Saratoga, Charleston, and Yorktown. Music is Beethoven's "Egmont Overture."
excellent choice of artwork, the music was trepid at best.
