Description:

BU Econ First Year Skit (Part 2):

How to Flirt Like an Economist

Narration
It looks like they found the advice they got from the Econometrics
section confusing and difficult to implement, a bit how they feel
about econometrics itself. Meanwhile, another group, in a far-away
corner of the 4th floor, seeks out the Microeconomists....

Micro

[Lipman in Epstein discussing something as Dater 1 walks in]

Epstein
Dater 1: Excuse me Professor Epstein, Professor Lipman. I have a date
coming up and I'd like some advice on what to do.
Epstein: I don't know what you mean by that?
Dater 1: I just want to know how to get him to like me?
Epstein: Well you should be able to hit on her... Formally.

Lipman
Lipman: Last time I gave someone dating advice was 40 years ago. So
let's hope I know how to do this. Uh, it's way too early. I don't
deal with teaching early.
Dater 1: Prof, it's 4:30 in the afternoon.
Lipman: Oh right. Well it just feels early. Invest in so humor, as
some sort of signal you could send her. Some sort of funny signal.
Dater 1: But will that really work?
Lipman: I have no idea -- I don't do reality. I'd draw a picture to
explain better but I'm an awful artist.
Dater 1: hmm... that's interesting, since we live in the real world...

[Dater 1 Dater 2 meet in the hall]
Dater 2: How are you doing?
Dater 1: I got the advice to try humor. Why don't we try the TAs?

[Dater 1 and Dater 2 walk over to TA's to get some additional help]

Andrew/Chiang
Dater 1 and Dater 2: Hi Andrew.
Andrew: I know why you're here. Bart probably told you to take them
to dinner, but I don't think that solution's very interesting.
Dater 2: Actually, we both already have plans on where to go. We're
looking for advice on how to act while on the date.
Andrew: Going on dates is very very very very VERY simple. Does
anybody really want me to talk about it?
Dater 1: [Dater 1 and 2 exchange glances and role eyes] Thanks for
your help Andrew. Chiang, did you have any suggestions?
Chiang: [standing near a table, start talking while tie his shoelaces]
Well, I think Bart only considered two cases, but I think we need to
consider all the cases. So if you are interested in the last 49
cases... Any other questions? [Flips his hair]
Dater 1: [rolls eyes and tells Dater 2] I have to run get ready for my
date. Good luck getting more advice.

[Dater 2 walks over to Bouton's office]

Bouton
Dater 2: I'm going on a date tonight Prof Bouton and I'm not sure if I
like this guy. What do you think I should act?
Bouton: Analyzing the dating game, maybe start with the normal form.
Look at the players, there you, and then there is the date, and there
are lots of actions then... OK let's start over, he takes you on a
date and you go to the opera, then you give him a little kiss. But if
he takes you on a date and you go to a football game, then you kill
him.
[Dater 2 looks thoughtfully and nods head...]

Interlude 1
Dater 2: Where did you want to meet?
Extra: At Gillette Stadium.
Dater 2: What's that?
Extra: It's where the New England Patriots play...
Dater 2: Oh the football team? I'm going to kill you...
Bouton: [yelling from offstage] It's an empty threat!

Interlude 2
Dater 1: Um, I asked my professor for some advice for how to act on a
date and they told me humor was a good thing to do, so I have some
economics jokes. What to hear them?
Extra: Sure.
Dater 1: [Taking notes out of pocket] How many economists does it take
to screw in a lightbulb?
Extra: How many?
Dater 1: Two. One to assume there's a ladder, the other to climb up
and screw it in.
Dater 1: I have another, but it starts off the same way. How many
economists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
Extra: How many?
Dater 1: None, if the government would just keep its hands off of it,
it'd screw in itself.
Dater 1: I have another. It starts off the same way. How many
economists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
Extra: How many?
Dater 1: Irrelevant, the lightbulbs preferences are taken as given.
Dater 1: But here's the best one. E to the x and a constant are
walking through math town...
Extra: [standing up] You know what, I'm done.
Dater 1: Well, you know what, your momma's so fat, her pdf function
integrates to 2.
