Deer Crash on a Bike

Brad hit a deer on our final Capital brewery ride on the Wisconsin Ironman course. Brad and his bike were OK, with only minor scratches.

My Garmin says I hit 44.9 mph on the hill at the start of the video. I was probably down to 20-25 when the deer steps out. Could have been way worse.

That is exactly what happened to me May 11th this year only I was riding at night on my way home from work. I was on a big downhill and going at least 25mph. I went over the bars and the deer and did a face plant on the highway. Ended up with a broken collar bone and shoulder blade as well as a nasty looking face. Deer are evil.

Should have jumped off and put the deer into a sleeper hold. Then he should have hauled the deer onto his back and carried him to Chuck Testa.

I'm glad Brad came out of that with minimal injuries. I'm sure the story he gets to tell with outweigh the soreness he has. Thank you for showing the helmet. I keep seeing people riding without them on the trails and I'm always baffled.

LOL at my first words. "OWWW, that hurt!"

Man, that looks even worse than it felt.

So at the end when I say I "tipped over", I clearly meant, "I flew in the air, flipped and landed on my butt while trying to wear my bike as headgear!"
