Hi, I am a first time metal detector user, I bought this AT Pro from Kellyco, it works great and I am having a ball. But I am getting a signal under a 200 year old Maple Tree?? It reads between 85 - 99, signals a coin in std mode. I gave up digging it, was that a mistake? or should I keep digging? any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  • I REALLY hate to say this...but sometimes if a tree grows in highly mineralized soil...you'll actually be able to detect the tree roots themselves because they absorb and concentrate those minerals. I think your getting the roots themselves. I noticed after you cut the roots, you got your best signal from the ends of the roots.

  • @locke212121 I had that same thought, thanks

  • Hello,

If the first two numbers of the serial number on your AT Pro are "50" send it in to Garrett for repair. They had issues with the first few detectors that went out. If the number starts with "51" or later, you should be fine. Dig everything until you no longer have a signal in the hole. I've re-scanned holes from others that gave up and pulled out some real goodies. Persistence pays off.

  • @Detectsit "51" had me worried there for a moment, hurricanes comin and always wanted to check out the beach, suspecting next week will be good time for it. Funny thing is I filled in the hole with all the root, rocks, and dirt and no longer get a signal like I was? I will dig it up again but I was havin fun finding stuff, and this hole became "work". :) Thanks

  • I dug a similar hole out in the woods deep like that and it was a lead pipe. I am thinking you are looking at the same thing. My At Pro cannot detect coins as deep as you have dug in air tests, so its got to be something larger.

  • If it reads 99 its usually a piece of iron or a beer cap. If you'll put it in the pro mode and turn on the iron audio you can usually hear it.

  • Nice finds , the "D ring" looks like a brass buckle. no sure what was in the hole, i would of dug it deeper though, i think you need 'The Raven" shovel from predatortools . com . i also have an AT PRO.

  • get a pistol probe and practice u will learn to dig deeper and be more patient.

  • The pro mode will tell you if it is abottlecap. It'll sound dirty like blacch!

  • Large trash items will read as being shallow.

There is probably a large pipe or it may be an old trash pit.

  • You need to get a Garrett pro pointer first of all, also I see you swinging the coil and I hear a tone oneway and no tone the other, that to me is falsing, turn down your sensitivity one notch at a time till that stops. When I get a hole started and I have gone fairly deep but still haven't found target, I take the pro pointer and use the tip and circle the hole on down, it is usually something in the side of the hole and not deeper, the Garrett Pro pointer detects both on the tip and on theside

  • Dig it up! I don't know how you could leave it without figuring out what it is.
