  • Sorry, I meant to add a comment with the vid. That is mine with the Elgin cam. I am going to a comp cam too. I want a little more radical. Did you use break in oil. Regular oil will kill a cam pretty quick from what I have heard during the break in. Mine has been fine. I went at 2,000-2,500 rpm for break in. To low will kill a cam too. If you still have the cam. I would Contact Elgin to see about getting a replacement.

  • I think I know why one of the lobes wiped out. For some reason my distributor quit working and I cranked the engine alot before I could figure out what was wrong. The distributor was working fine when it was in my 350 the week before. When I went to use it, it was no good. I didn't use any break in oil, just the lube that comes with the cam. To be honest I didn't even know I had a bad lobe. The engine wasn't missing.

  • It would be lopier in a 350. Funny how that is.

  • I have recently swapped to a bigger XE 284 cam. When I pulled the Elgin I noticed the very back lobe was starting to go flat. I had a hard time trying to get this engine to fire for the first time because of a bad ignition. I probably messed up the cam cranking it over to start it.

  • That thing sounds wicked! : )

  • Thanks alot! I wish it hit harder. I have a set of Dart Iron Eagles getting ready to go on.

  • With a non-roller camshaft-lifter, you need to use a ZDDP additive to the oil. With low levels of ZDDP in new engine oils, the lifter-to-camshaft contact surface essentially receives no lubrication.

  • I'll keep that in mind. I will be firing up my new 355 here in a few days.

  • I let this engine run for around 20 mintes with the rpm between 1500-2000. I had no problems.

  • ? What R.P.M.'s and for how long do you personaly let it idle for break in? Is too long of a ? to answer here.
