@MakonianLuv I disagree, in that case it would be headphones they'd give them for stage directions. They wouldn't have any possible need to speak back to the stage direction team during the performance. The reason for the headset mics is that they can individually work out levels for each mic, and result with a better audio experience to the audience.

@zammer990 It's for aesthetics, back in the days it was natural for background singers to be around a single mic. With that - they are huddled around the mic simply for the performance =]
