lyrics from "the Diary of the heart" collection from 2009 series of letters, poems and scribbled thoughts that eventually make their way into my songs. In this short sample of this unfinished song, the words were expanded upon from the second verse.

The lyrics are hard to understand. I'm tweaking that now. Watching it in HD makes a big difference as far as sound quality. This song repeats again with out vocals so you can hear the composition.

Life is pretty quiet these days so most of my lyrics come from this period.

Some people use words that hang on them like clothes. I never liked the way I looked wearing/using the word "cool". It just never suited me.

However, when describing the instrumentation in this song, it is a word that comes to mind. Think of all the sounds in this song as different shapes, shades and brightness of lights against a dark background. Its how I imagine the sounds as I am composing.

I have to envision a wide space to fill up with large and small sounds, both near and far away. Adding echo and reverb illuminates the wide and open space. Rolling/cutting off the bass, mid or treble tones in a synth will leave room for the bass, mid or treble to come through in another synth, drums or vocals.

In all the colors of sound with their space planning, I must remember to leave an empty spot for where the vocals are going to go, in the center of the mix and never off to the side where the variety of synths are panned. I composed the music way before I knew what the song was going to be about.

I'm feelin' this one..
