Altair is not in the second Assassins Creed II the new role will be taken by a character called Ezio Auditore de Florente (not sure if i spelt it right) this is Altair's descendent and yes he does have the ability to swim. Also he has two hidden blades and he lives 295 years after the events we see in AC1 (remember it actualy takes place in the not to distant future) so hes in the renascance

Oh thank god. We're playing as a hardened killer who can scale buildings and take down 10 opponents at the same time, and yet he can't swim... How does that make sense?

that's one thing that disappointed me, they had the historical figures in the game, but, you were almost expected to already know about these figures of power during that time period.
