http://www.lyndeboroughnhrealestate.com -- Tour Lyndeborough, NH neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices.

Lyndeborough, New Hampshire is a rural bedroom community with no industry and little commerce. Lack of waterpower prevented any major development of industry in Lyndeborough. Geographically, a ridge of mountains that are part of the Pack Monadnock Range divides the town.

The school, former Baptist Church, Post Office, Fire Station and Citizens? Hall, originally built for social events but now used as the town offices are located on the south of town on Route 31. The Lyndeborough town center, two miles away on Center Road, is the site of the Town Hall (now used for small meetings and social affairs), the old Town Pound, and the former Congregational Church.

Lyndeborough's major claim to fame is the former glass factory, which operated from 1866 to 1886. It made bottles of all sizes, mostly in a pale blue-green color, that are now prized by collectors. Lyndeborough's glassware was said to be the best in New England, but the factory could not compete with cheaper clear glass made in western New York. The quartz from which glass was made was mined in town, and after the factories closed the little quarry supplied white stone for construction panels; the quarry is still worked occasionally today.

On the Mont Vernon border is Purgatory Falls, a spectacular chasm with 25-foot waterfalls. A popular resort area 100 years ago, it is now a conservation area shared by the two communities.

The Lafayette Artillery Company, established in Lyndeborough in 1804, is the second oldest such company in the country. Now independent, it was originally part of the militia and the National Guard. The company's prize artillery piece is an 1840 brass cannon. For the past several years the Lafayette Artillery Company has hosted a Civil War encampment in Wilton every August.
