OK that makes sense.

I feel the same about net connections-they just aren't a replacement for the real thing, cuz people come & go like ghosts. So maybe I'm weird, but I treat things like YouTube subs differently. I won't sub someone until I've watched a bunch of their vids & feel like I'll want to follow them for the long haul, and I won't unsub unless their channel goes dead or they get too "famous" and become just entertainers.
