American Flyer diesel train engines first run. It took about half a can of contact cleaner to get these trains running. They were found in a storage bin wrapped up in news papers from 1965.

  • Your Texas and Pacific Geep may need to have the new axle bushings installed on the power truck. Gilbert used a soft metal in building their motor block. After considerable use, the axle holes became egg shaped. Then you end up having to much play in the axles. This is a nice diesel. Not easy to fine. Sure wish MTH would make "S" gauge trains.

  • the axles have a little bit of play in them but its not that bad, the big problem is that the windings are "tired", they are not as strong as they should be. and the rubber wheels, after 50 yrs, there not rubber anymore.

  • Its up to you, but if that was mind locomotive I would have the armature rewound and new rubber tires installed.
