------
Marc Emery is interviewed on CBC National News to discuss his extradition, the raid on Emery Seeds, what he did with the money, why the USA and DEA are overstepping their bounds, and more. Filmed on July 20th, 2006.

There are many other seed banks in Europe and Canada that sell to the United States, and there were even 3 other seed stores on the very same block as Marc Emery Seeds. Marc was not the first or biggest bank to sell seeds to the United States by mail. The difference between those seed sellers and Marc Emery is that Marc boldly announced he was using all the seed proceeds to end the drug war by financing anti-prohibition activities.

Marc Emery speaks out against the US Drug War in the media, election campaigns (he leads an official provincial political party, one that ran a full slate of candidates in 2001), and his 13-year-old magazine Cannabis Culture. He criticized the US Drug Czar John Walters to his face when Walters had the gall to come to Vancouver in 2001 and tell our mayor to adopt his US War on Drugs.

The media loved the confrontation, and the mayor (and mayor-elect) both criticized Walters' heavy-handed and illogical approach. But Walters, and the White House he works for, were pissed off at Marc... and that's when the investigation began in the US, even though a Canadian court had earlier thrown out a Vancouver Police-led investigation and case because it had no merit.

The US Drug Enforcement Administration admitted on the day of Marc Emery's arrest that his investigation and extradition were politically motivated, designed to target the marijuana legalization efforts and organizations that Emery spearheaded and financed for over a decade.

Here is the original text of DEA Administrator Karen Tandy's statement released on July 29th, 2005, which is also available in its original letterhead form here: http://www.cannabisculture.com/articles/4685.html

"Today's DEA arrest of Marc Scott Emery, publisher of Cannabis Culture Magazine, and the founder of a marijuana legalization group -- is a significant blow not only to the marijuana trafficking trade in the U.S. and Canada, but also to the marijuana legalization movement.

His marijuana trade and propagandist marijuana magazine have generated nearly $5 million a year in profits that bolstered his trafficking efforts, but those have gone up in smoke today.

Emery and his organization had been designated as one of the Attorney General's most wanted international drug trafficking organizational targets -- one of only 46 in the world and the only one from Canada.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars of Emery's illicit profits are known to have been channeled to marijuana legalization groups active in the United States and Canada. Drug legalization lobbyists now have one less pot of money to rely on."

  • It's funny how the US gov is looking for this guy and probably has a warrant but here he is on National TV in Canada. Goes to show ya that we throw it in their face.

  • @monkeymirror Marc was extradited to the USA in May 2010. He was sentenced to 5 years in US federal prison on September 10th. He is now serving his sentence in Georgia, and it's a horrible private prison and recent developments have taken a turn for the worse.
