Man, that's no joke; in fact, it seemed that every year Carter was in office, things just continued to go from bad to worse, not just for us here at home, but also for many other countries in the world; I.E., the worldwide fuel shortage, the crumbling Middle East peace accords, etc.

@QuizGuy66 early on in the show's run - Ed Newman was actually in the studio and that was even more awkward than this... FYI, the over the shoulder graphic which read NBC News Update was a holdover from when Newman was in studio with Letterman -- using the same typewriter typeface as the Letterman daytime show.. short lived show, but was the launching pad for Letterman ...
