A video for Miro by Chris Draper. It was made in 1990-91? at the time of the 1st Iraq conflict and was released as a 7" single and film. To my knowledge the record was only played once in this country, on london radio, Gary Crowley on a live session while the film has never recieved any public airing. All of that makes the appearance finally in the public domain of this miro curio long over due considering the quality of Chris' ( flea art) brilliant film/animation, shot on i think standard 8.
The cut with sound was done by Chris and myself over a 2 day period on steam driven antique equipment. do you recognise the much loved Sam Green acting out maddness in the troubadour? where also the group shots were filmed. It is a small dip into a creative time between the 1st and 2nd miro albums and was recorded at the late beat factory studios in kings cross. James DeHaan plays drums; Richard Kirshtein clarinet; Julian Jackson violin. The single came in a hand made sleeve with a book (1000 copies). the spoken quote on the outro is 'what the kids of America want today is peanut butter sandwiches, plenty of sunshire and a nice place to swim' from Bush senior spoken by julian who also brought along the ventriloquist dummy, owned by his grandfather.

  • Good old Julian!! Haven't seen him in ages, it's nice to hear his stuff again

  • I recorded (engineered) this at my studio, The Beat Factory in 1991. I was completely entranced by the concept , both of the song and the video, which seemed to wrap around each other in such a way that, now, I can't imagine one without the other.

The world situation today just seems to resonate in the song, nineteen years later. Miro were amazing to work with, such musicianship! It was an honour to be involved, albeit in a small way, in such an inspired piece.

  • AND.. this is still sooo relevant today. x

  • What happened to Rod? Where is he now? Not even a MySpace?? Used to see him everywhere at one time - or on his stall at Camden. Where are you Roddie?

  • Wow! I know it was a while ago but seeing this brought those magic days flooding back, seeing Roddie julia & jules performing in the midst of a typical Miro style background next thing we knew there was chellos and violins everywhere, I will allways love you guys.

    Bob Cairns.
