The 160 is a new poetic form, based on sms messaging (texting). Every poem consists of exactly 160 characters, including spaces: the maximum length of one textmessage. The 160 was invented in 2005 by Sofie Cerutti, a poet and historian living in Amsterdam. She wrote the first series: '160 characters (with spaces)'. www.precies160.nl

Visitors of the Lowlands 2007 music festival were invited to text their 160 poem. These poems were then presented in movies on several huge outdoor screens visible from allover the festival. Placing the new poems on the movies was done by a system created by Remko van Dokkum.
