My Husband, Jon, is VERY shy. He is also camera shy. Nonetheless I managed to get him to grace me with a short interview regarding his toy.

When I met him, this piece of machinery was the very first thing he introduced me to. Sheeeeesh! It's a 1964 Case Track Loader 450. Jon loves old things. He loves big machinery. That's probably why he is a Civil Engineer.

Jon has a devil may care attitude to life - an attitude towards material things that I have picked up from him in the 7 years since we've been married. I think that shows in this video as he drives straight into the heavy tree bedevilled bush with no protective clothing on, no hard hat and no protective goggles. The thing is, that I was not far behind him minus the same protective clothing he should have been wearing. I think our neighbours think we are nutz!

I have always loved Jon's free attitude. He is quirky, crazy, a redneck, that is if I understand that term properly here in America, because it means something else entirely back in South Africa where I come from. If I insult him, he simply says to me "I resemble that remark!" He has a dry sense of humour and I call him my Ozark Mountain Hillbilly - and yes, he resembles that remark too. LOL

The loud noise you hear at the end of the video is the old Route 66, now called the I-44 which is about 20 meters away off to the left.

Jon is the great love of my life!

  • THAT looks like 100 percent FUN! :) hehe

  • @ScottishProfessor Jon has a lot of fun on that old museum piece, Marty. He gets it started up and going for about 1 minute before it peters out on him. But, for him, it's 100% fun, just as you say. Sometimes he scares me with it thought, as he can be far too carefree. LOL

  • Big toy's for big boys.

Hey Jon, I'm praying for you Sir.

  • Hello Mark,

Don't stop! God has wrought so many miracles in our lives this year. I could write a book on His grace and majesty towards us. God has used my marriage to Jon to strengthen me in ways I never thought were possible. And I believe that book will be in the pipeline one day.

  • That Machinery Is Awsome, Man It Can Go Through Anything HAHHAHHA LOL

    =)

    A.K.A Brandon

  • Hello Brandon,

Yes, it is awesome stuff. What is awesome to me is that this museum piece is still running at all. Jon has an uncanny knack with machinery, and most times, the way I have observed him "fix" things has reduced me to laughter as the stuff actually kicks into life at his touch - like magic! Our home is surrounded by "fixed" things. LOL

  • "Just remember i'm behind you when you start pulling these trees down", lol!

  • That is fun, but watch out it has no safety roll cage

  • This Case 450 is 60's vintage. It works a bit. Hydraulic cylinder won't raise the bucket ... I gotta fix that. It usually sits in the shade of the forest awaiting my presence. Some day, I'll play an old fiddle tune for it, something like "Possums up the 'Simmon Tree". The old tractor sees quite a few 'simmon trees around here. Trees are loaded with fruit, but it's gonna be about a month before we can eat any ... takes a good frost or two to ripen the fruit.

  • Apparently there is some sediment in the fuel tank that is hindering flow. I have to take off a fuel line, and with a straw blow into the fuel line to open it up. Then I can operate the tractor for a few minutes. I'll clean out the fuel tank when the fuel level gets low.

  • Did one of those trees go in to the engin bay and push off some fuel lines or somthing?

  • Hi Bruce,

Jon loved this video and he is going to try to get the dozer running again today. I will film some more and keep you updated.
