  • Without doubt the most beautiful duet ever written, and most wonderfully performed...this is sheer perfection.

  • Under the dense canopy Where the white jasmine Blends with the rose On the flowering bank Laughing at the morning Come, let us drift down together Let us gently glide along With the enchanting flow Of the fleeing current

On the rippling surface With a lazy hand Let us reach the shore Where the source sleeps And the bird sings Under the dense canopy Under the white jasmine Let us drift down together

  • this song brings me to tears every time

  • Tourengeau lost her voice and got it back by studying with Michael Trimble. Sutherland and Bonynge chose only Trimble for a teacher for their friend. they could have chosen any teacher in the world. He got her back to vocal health and she went on to have a nice career. Trimble can be heard on Youtube singing great. what a tenor he was, and the best voice teacher in the world. the great ones of the past generation knew this.

  • Sutherland's French accent is very impressive. She sings this so much more ravishingly than Mady Mesple whose tone is far too thin to capture the richness of the score.

  • Que maravilla!!!, que lindo duo, cantado por "La estupenda" y magnificamente acompañada por Tourangeau. BRAVOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • She does a better performance with Marilyn Horne (I think it's at a charity Gala Concert at Sydney Opera House in '80s) -uploaded by dummysistem. She sings better & blends better with Horne. Still think I prefer Sumi Jo, tho. Just! :)

  • Have to say, I prefer Sumi Jo. Normally love Dame Joan but she's not as good as Sumi in this rendition (in my opinion). Also their voices don't blend that well -Joan sticks out far too much.

  • @scarf0 Goose

  • Absolutely agree this is the most beautiful duet ever written.

  • SUTHERLAND, THE DAME!

  • beautiful singing, but what beautiful costumes!!!! That makes it extra special for me, since it is sung in concerto mode a lot of times nowadays :)
