This folksong was part of a concert in Basel's Leonhardskirche last November. It was recorded with MILAB's brandnew SRND Surroundmicrophone onto "Digital Performer" (Earthworks and MOTU pre-amps). Video was recorded with a Sony V1 in 25p.

  • @palcika1 maybe, it kind of alludes back to the beginning, prob suggesting if she loved him

she wouldnt be a 'strawberry in a salt sea,' just out of place, you know

  • @palcika1 thats because they are 'sailing the high seas' so to speak XD haha

  • I know it makes some sense, cause in part I get it.

The men's question mocks the guy that instead of tasting the fruit of his love he must swallow salt tears. It would be hard to convince me it's not that (but then, it's hard to convince me of anything, some people have already tried....)

And I have guesses for the second part too, like either he tells them they get no women in that damn forest, or while they're out there, others keep visiting their women in the town or village or anything.

  • @palcika1 it means it doesnt make sense at all, i think thats what he entailed here. that it doesnt make sense that the woman he loved should go with another man, and plus they asked a really stupid question. lol XD it is interesting.. but this is my take on it, not to be taken literal, just a rhetorical question is all they asked, self-explamatory

  • I think it's a joke.

"Oh yeah? Well then how many ships sail in the forest? Zing!"

  • The men of yon forest, they ask it of me:

How many strawberries grow in the salt sea?

I ask of them back, with a tear in my eye:

How many ships sail in the forest?

The meaning is so compressed here. I can't make it out really but I get a strange feeling when I hear it.
