After a long absence, The Eye returns with a rare opportunity to sit down for a one-on-one conversation with Justin K. Broadrick. Justin talks about his roots in Napalm Death through Head of David, Godflesh, Final, and now Jesu; post-punk post-metal and the love of harmonies; and how nobody should ever expect a Godflesh reunion...ever!

  • These are great clips. The interview is actually interesting; the live clips are long enough to whet my appetite (especially with Jesu, the music really needs "room"), but not so long that it's not still a tease, making me want more. And he's a "cute" drunk (I feel like I'm sitting in a pub with bud), and a very charismatic speaker -- I could listen to him for hours.

  • He wasn't drunk at all, just tired from flying into Boston from Austin during a crazy snowstorm.

  • Justin B. have always made interesting music, since "Scum" times.

  • i will agree, mogwai and jesu does have that same kind of depressing tone throughout their music

  • his musical philosophy isn't really that different from someone like cobain's.

  • yeah fine the critics but jkb isnt lady gaga, look at were he is sitting geez, look like school contest, i mean i dont know if he made-make money out of jesu-gf-final-whitestaticdemonandthousandofsideproject but its seems to me the humble guy next door..at the end of the day he made and still play good music, so, criticise his music rather then the man itself

  • Is that Torche that's playing in the background?

  • Love it

  • This truly was an AMAZING interview. I watch all three videos of it. I can relate to all of what he was saying whether about music, to nihilism, misanthropy, death, etc........ This man is truly one of a kind and he found his outlet in life to express it.

    Hail Justin Broadrick.

  • @PATEv4 He has stated numerous times - his music he is performing at a given time is autobiographical. Godflesh reformed why: *ding* he started to have those feeling again in his life and he separates his projects based on his feelings. Jesu, P.S., Godflesh, etc. He was asked about it many times and he said the same answer - something like "it's in me again".. Either way: You know damn sure he was talking about bands like Motley Crue and such who at 40+ still sing about partying in the 80s.

  • "I'm not gonna be 40 years old, standing on stage, screaming my head off, playing songs I made when I was 19 years old. To me that's as bad, as ingeniously as one can get. It's a karaoke, I'm disgusted with it. I'd rather give up music than have to do it."

Shame, this is exactly what's he doing right now. What a fucking, stupid dumbass hypocritical liar.

  • When you listen to his work, it sounds like he understands music very well, he's labeled as a post-metal, but he's post-punk. But this interview provides that he can't read music. Its amazing to think that this man like he says "doesn't believe in boundaries". Fuck yeah!!! You don't need to read music to make music. PROPS justin :]

  • @luismaiz412 Even before "Scum".

  • Oh please, most of your stuff is on the legendary side of music !

Let me build you back some confidence, most of the stuff from Godflesh and Jesu is objectively brilliant...
