@algi1948 Why is that we are still discussing WWII as through the prism of atrocities which while they were horrendous, we're not unique in European military history except for their ideological nature and scale. There are larger issues to be considered. Take the Romans for example, they too would exterminate people to show who was boss. These days this history is just a footnote because it doesn't help us understand very much about them.

I don't have to feel uncomfortable and there is no reason for me to deny the atrocities which were done by (according to Britannica) about 4% of the German forces.

What they don't teach us today is how millions of eastern Europeans felt liberated by the Germans from the communists butchers who killed about 40.000.000 people including women and children under Stalin.

I deny the official propaganda version of WW2 as long as it is only 50% of the truth.

@Lintflas I understand that as a German you feel uncomfortable. However you are not to be personally blamed. But have you heard of the Babi-Yar massacre? German army/SS shot 34000 Jews in 2 days (18-19 september 1941), have you heared of the Einsatzgruppen? they were not aliens from space... is it because the victims were Jews, they don't count? The Soviets were criminals, no doubt, but they were not targetting women and children. Denying doesn't change facts. Sorry.

You know the famous massacre of Katyn, where 28.000 of the most important Polish intellectuals and politicians were executed?

This massacre was FALSELY blamed on the Germans for 62 YEARS, until Russian and British military archives were opened. The evidence clearly revealed the Russians committed this genocide, and the British knew about it, but blamed it on Germany.

Sorry, I don't believe in that "blame the Germans" propaganda any longer.

@paomtep It were the Germans who started the methodic brutality against civilians in Poland and Russia... no wonder the Russians fought fiercly the way they did... Russian crimes against civil population? maybe. But not on the same scale as the Germans did. It is the 3d Newton's law: the action, and the reaction.

@2004DAZZA Indeed paratroops were a very risky method to insert troops. When it worked the results could be spectacular. Even so, the causalities incurred would be intolerable today. Perhaps the unhappiest paratroopers of all were those the French used during their Indochina wars during the 1940's/ '50's. I read somewhere that French paratroopers greatest contribution to France was to show how to die as heroes.
