  • @TomBarrister it could also be that the reel speeds of the recording and the playback are different. Personally I can't hear the difference, and it's still brilliant regardless if it matches our current desired tone frequencies (A=440 and so on). Heifetz is Heifetz. 'Nuff said.

  • @abviolinplayer It's a problem with Youtube. Almost every video of this work ends up about a half-tone higher. I had this posted a few years ago at the correct tone, but a person who had an issue with me "hacked" into my account and deleted everything.

  • Absolutely Spectacular Playing and what bow control! But we really have to have a word for the camera-men, they have such fantastic close ups of his bow and fingers, you can just observe and learn so much of his playing.

  • The first 8 measures of this do not sound like Lord of the Rings!

  • Just the way the boy looks at the violin in the end makes me want to cry. And I haven't even watched the movie.

  • He was playing so fast that the image can't catch up with him! Way to go Jascha! Deny those laws of physics!

  • love the zoom in with the build like that at 2:57

  • @violin614 I think the reason he could get that kind of sound with so little bow is more likely due to the fact that the sound was recorded separate from the video footage, so was in fact using a lot of bow when playing in the recording and did not perfectly 'sync' when being filmed. This happened in every depiction of music performance in old films because they did not want audio equipment clogging up the scene being filmed.

  • @IvanTheCat That is also to do with the great bow he had.

  • I can't listen to this because it sounds a half step higher than it's written...a problem with the sound file I guess? what a shame. I have a recording of Heifetz playing this but I like watching him play. >_<
